Spent much of the day getting ready for my date with B. The siblings helped me pick out my outift.

I was late, as always, the show was fun, and B was cute. Called it an early night and slept at my new place for the first time.

Woke up after about 2 hours of train-shook sleep. Traveling with Abby was nice. Ate breakfast watching the sun come up over Ohio.

Marcel met us at the station. We caught up over breakfast #2 at a swank cafe. Met Lisa who is absolutely charming. The four of us went food shopping and cooked pork chops and kale. Me and Marcel split a bottle of wine and got into a pretty high stakes boggle match. Watched deal or no deal, then slept at Lisa’s. So great to catch up after all this time!

Got pretty frustrated with my programming but had a great convo with Marcel that got me back on track.

Worked super hard from home all day long. Might call it a bout with workaholism. I need to chillax.

Did write a pretty bitchin’ ruby script, though. I impressed myself. Not that that’s all that difficult ;-)

Worked all day from home, except for a brief foray to the agency.
Geeked out with Bridget and wrote a ‘99 Bottles of Beer’ program even after sharing a bottle of wine.

Life with Abby is good. Sleater-Kinney are the greatest background music for a quickie but goodie.

Spent much of the day travelling, Grand Central to CT, CT to MA. Talked with Les in the morning. I think my dad wanted to say something meaningful before I left, something about being proud of me or glad that I was still around in light of Karl’s death, but he didn’t have the words and I didn’t have the time. Sigh.

Listened to John Cleese reading the screwtape letters on the way back, which was really grand and felt good for my being somehow. Came home, got a little work done on my client’s pages, watched the office and made love. Abby and I are going to Chicago and I am pretty damn excited.

What an intense, draining but somehow uplifting day. The whole family drove peacefully (how often does that happen) down to New York for Karl’s memorial service. The church was the same in which I was baptized and my aunt was married. Every seat was taken by mourners, even the choir loft. His sister was the first to speak and she remembered Karl as he was- curious, genuine, handsome, kind, always taking life by the horns and riding it wherever it took him. Many tears were shed. He really was one of the best people you could hope to know, as his great uncle said. Death be not proud.

Said goodbye to his family and mine and went to hang out with Les. Talked about everything, but mostly life, death and sex. Went shopping. Watched Basquiat. Fell asleep on a too-small couch.

Started the day out wicked busy. Trucking between jobs finishing off little things before I go home. Had a deep conversation about loss and grief with Crispin, who lost his little sister a couple of years ago just as suddenly as we lost Karl.

Drove home. The light was perfect and leaves were beautiful. Listened to the Screwtape letters. Talked with Mom and watched her favorite shows with her. Played my Ossu! Tatakae! Ouendan and read ‘til sleep.

Felt much much better today, health-wise. Was super productive with getting Jeff’s website up and running but there was a funny/awkward moment where his wife tried to set me up with their personal assistant. She is admittedly cute but it was still weird and i am not really looking at the moment.

Woke up with some awful stomach virus/food poisoning and spent most of the day in pain or in the bathroom.

Nonetheless managed to pull it together to entertain Tim and Caroline who were visiting from New York. Went out to the Rte. 7 Grill then back to my house for board games.

Things at Cypress are crazy, I’ve been slacking off some, or doing non-cypress work there :-/. Then went to meet with my Publisher client who was very happy with the work I’d done so far and pre-paid for some more.

Bridget and I drove to Vermont to see Joanna Newsom at Bennington. Alls I can say is that she was AMAZING, she cast a spell on the whole room. Her voice is really developing this timeless quality to it, and her new material is captivating.

Saw my ex’s ex there, who was bootlegging the show.

Work and work. Did some kick-ass Rails associations, man, self-referential single-table inheritance. Then got facebooked by an old crush who want to hang out.

Then ate sushi and ice cream with Bridget, finished our hip-hop mix for Marcel and taught her some Ruby.
